Endorsements
West Georgia RESA is pleased to offer Georgia PSC-approved Endorsement Programs.
Each endorsement program requires completion of the following items:
Once a candidate receives approval for the endorsement program, he or she may register at the West Georgia RESA Registration site.
Gifted Endorsement
West Georgia RESA is pleased to provide Gifted Endorsement that is aligned to Georgia Professional Standards Commission rules that result in Gifted In-Field Endorsement added to a teaching certificate. The series of four courses prepares teachers to identify the gifted learner, plan challenging instruction to meet their needs, explain the evaluation process under Georgia rules, and analyze program options for the gifted.
Dyslexia
In the Dyslexia Endorsement, Candidates will develop an understanding of language processing, instructional strategies to support learning to read, aspects of cognitive behavior that affect reading and writing development, and the phases of typical development of oral language, phoneme awareness, decoding skills, printed word recognition, spelling, reading fluency, reading comprehension, and written expression.
Reading
With a focus on the foundational concepts of reading, including the pillars of Phonics, Phonemic Awareness, Fluency, Vocabulary, and the ultimate end of Comprehension, candidates will increase their knowledge of the reading process by examining theory and research as a foundation for making instructional decisions for planning and implementing effective literacy programs. In order to inform such decision-making, candidates will explore current issues, materials, strategies, and approaches to reading instruction and assessment.
Computer Science
The Computer Science Endorsement program will prepare candidates who demonstrate computational thinking skills to formalize a problem and express its solution in a way that computers (human and machine) can effectively carry out a variety of tasks. Candidates will learn about networking basics, logical programming, and Javascript.
ESOL
The ESOL Endorsement courses at West Georgia RESA will equip candidates with an understanding of English language structures in different discourse contexts, knowledge of second language acquisition theory and developmental process of language, demonstrate knowledge of language processes, and apply knowledge of English academic language functions, learning domains, content-specific language and discourse structures, and vocabulary to promote ELLs’ academic achievement across content areas.
