This picture book biography celebrates the life of Florence Merriam Bailey, a groundbreaking scientist who inspired a nation to take up birdwatching and worked tirelessly to save our feathered friends. Florence Merriam Bailey wrote books, passed out pamphlets, and led bird walks so that people could see these creatures with their own eyes. With hard work and perseverance, she changed the way that people looked at birds. This book has it all- powerful curriculum connections, new words to learn, and a positive message about learning by doing! After reading this magnificent book, step outside and spend some time observing and enjoying the birds that live in your neighborhood!

Two more days until Lit, Love, Read begins! Today's book is One Tiny Treefrog: A Countdown to Survival by Tony Piedra and Mackenzie Joy.
The gorgeous illustrations in this picture book take young readers on a journey to Costa Rica where they will find ten sticky frog eggs clinging to a leaf. Only nine eggs hatch, and only eight tadpoles end up in the water. What will it take to survive the countdown to adulthood and begin the cycle again? Budding naturalists will learn about the treefrog, its habitats, and its predators as they turn the pages of this dazzling book. This book works for different levels and different children with just a few words on the page for the very youngest listeners and the fact-filled back pages to share with older readers.

Three more days until Lit, Love, Read 2026 begins! Today's book is The Noisy Paintbox: The Colors and Sounds of Kandinsky's Abstract Art by Barbara Rosenstock
Vasily Kandinsky grew up learning the things that proper Russian boys learned in his day-piano, math, and science. And when his family sent him to art classes, they expected him to paint pretty houses and flowers—like a proper artist.
But as Vasily opened his paint box and began mixing the reds, the yellows, the blues, he heard a strange sound—the swirling colors trilled like an orchestra tuning up for a symphony! And as he grew older, he continued to hear brilliant colors singing and see vibrant sounds dancing. Share this story of Kandinsky, one of the first painters of abstract art, and celebrate the creative spirit! As a follow-up activity, get out the paint set, play some classical music, and let your budding artists create a masterpiece based on the music that they hear.

Lit, Love, Read, Let's Read Georgia's statewide reading campaign, begins in just four days! Our Let's Read Georgia coaches will be visiting classrooms throughout our RESA area to read-aloud and share instructional strategies for building knowledge, vocabulary, and comprehension. As we prepare for this fun event, we will share a favorite book each day until our Lit, Love, Read Kick-off on World Read-Aloud Day, February 4th. Our first book is the classic Where the Wild Things Are by Maurice Sendak.
One evening Max dons his wolf suit and makes mischief, so his mother sends him to his room. His imagination fills the room with trees and an ocean, and he sails away to the place where the wild things are. Max tames the wild things and crowns himself king. Let the wild rumpus begin!
Share this book with a child who loves a story with action and a reassuring ending that home is the very best place of all!

Our WGRESA Let's Read GA Literacy Leads met for a wonderful day of learning last week! The theme was "Building a Literacy Culture that Lasts." Our LRG Literacy Coaches presented strategies for building reading comprehension, increasing student engagement, and planning protocols for effective read-alouds. Each Literacy Lead received a copy of the Scholastic Science of Reading book, Know Better, Do Better Comprehension, as well as some tiny building "tools" to serve as a reminder of how teachers, coaches, and administrators can work together to build a literacy culture where students thrive. We appreciate the leadership and commitment from each of our Literacy Leads!
